What Fans Are Saying About Paul Pogba’s Performance Against Arsenal

Manchester United succumbed to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal yet again as the Gunners registered their first away win against a top-six side in the Premier League since the 2014/15 season.

Both sides seemed pretty evenly matched throughout the game except the Londoners seemed dominant in midfield. Thomas Partey covered every blade of grass as he controlled the midfield, drawing comparisons to Paul Pogba who had a very quiet game.

In fact, it was by virtue of the Frenchman’s mistake that Arteta’s side walked away with a win. Pogba brought down Hector Bellerin – through what many would consider a very needless challenge – in the penalty box after which Mike Dean pointed to the spot. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made no mistake and buried the penalty, sending David De Gea the wrong way.

However, the focus moves back to United’s record signing — not only did he suffer a very dull outing, he also awarded the opponents the win. Naturally, this got fans talking as losing the battle in midfield definitely contributed to the Red Devils’ loss.

Here what Twitter had to say:

The frustration of the fans is quite understandable. One would expect a World Cup-winning, record signing should be the one winning such games for his side. The French international is generally having a very dull season so far, despite ending the previous campaign showing signs of a great partnership brewing with Bruno Fernandes.

Alas, one cannot blame the entire loss on the former Juventus man alone. Scott McTominay was absent throughout the match whilst Fred couldn’t help but make mistakes. Fernandes was no better as he failed to find a way around Gabriel Magalhaes.

There is no denying that the World Champion was caught lacking this time around – especially whilst giving away the penalty – but it does seem bit unfair that it’s only him who’s under fire by the fans.
