Man United youngster Teden Mengi is set to secure a loan move to Derby County on Monday.

The 18-year-old centre-back will become the first Derby signing under newly announced manager Wayne Rooney.

According to the Daily Mail, Mengi will spend time at Pride Park for the remainder of the season after the Championship club agreed to a loan deal with Man United. The deal is expected to go through before the end of the transfer deadline day.

Since his appointment as the club’s permanent manager, Rooney has done a commendable job to pull Derby five points clear of the relegation zone. Saturday’s 1-0 win against Bristol City was the Rams third successive league win.

With the arrival of the highly-rated defender, Rooney will be confident of keeping Derby in the Championship. Mengi, meanwhile, will relish the opportunity to play under the tutelage of the Man United legend.

The United academy graduate also needs to gain regular first-team experience. He has not featured for the senior team since his debut against LASK in the Europa League in August.

Alongside Mengi, Marcos Rojo is also likely to head for the exit door at Old Trafford on Monday. The former Sporting Lisbon defender, who was signed by Louis van Gaal in 2014, is on the verge of finalising a permanent move to Boca Juniors.
