England Goalkeeper Thinks Harry Maguire Belongs In The Same Category As Virgil Van Dijk
Harry Maguire has impressed Dean Henderson with his recent exploits, with the England goalkeeper rating him alongside Virgil van Dijk.
The centre-back has not only had to defend on the pitch but against harsh critics ever since his switch to Manchester United two years ago. Maguire had always been under fire for every misstep he made as his record-breaking transfer fee loomed over him.
However, in the last six months or so the Englishman has turned the discourse surrounding around. Coming off an impressive campaign for the Red Devils, the defender showcased his abilities at Euro 2020, over the course of which he silenced his critics.
Moreover, having made it into the Euros Team Of the Tournament, the England international made a statement of his capabilities. And Henderson argues his teammate has proven that he belongs on the same level as van Dijk, who is considered by many as the best centre-back in the world.
“How can you doubt Harry Maguire? Nobody can doubt him,” the goalkeeper told talkSPORT.
“He plays every single game for Manchester United, the biggest football club in the world and no matter what he gives his best.
“Unfortunately you can’t play outstanding in every game because nobody is perfect, but Harry is a top centre-half.
“I’d put him in the same category as Virgil van Dijk, and I’ll be proven right in the next couple of years because he’s only going to get better and better.”
The talented shot-stopper did not hold back when he was praising his compatriot, which is just another instance of how much respect and admiration United players have for their skipper.
Moreover, the former Sheffield United man is right – the 28-year-old is only going to get better. So grouping him alongside the Dutchman is not a far-fetched claim after all.
On the other hand, Henderson just returned from injury that kept him out of the Euros campaign. The 24-year-old will surely look to emulate his captain’s work as he attempts to take over as United’s next No. 1 during the upcoming Premier League season.
