Arsenal will now have to compete with Liverpool, Tottenham, and Manchester United for Houssem Aouar’s signature.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been Aouar’s long-term admirers and also had a €40 million bid rejected by Lyon last summer. 12 months later, the French playmaker is available for a much cheaper fee, but the Gunners are now joined by their Premier League rivals, reports ESPN.

Lyon wish to offload the 23-year-old despite two years still remaining on his contract. An offer in the region of €25m could be enough to get such a highly-rated talent.

Further, Lyon’s willingness to do the deal accompanied by a significantly reduced fee compared to last summer window could tempt multiple clubs to make a move for Aouar.

Liverpool are in the market for Wijnaldum’s replacement, and with Saul Niguez linked with a Barcelona switch, there aren’t many better alternatives than the Lyon man.

Meanwhile, United are also ‘monitoring’ his situation, as uncertainty continues to loom around Paul Pogba’s future. Paris Saint-Germain, who have already signed Wijnaldum on a free transfer, are also reported to be interested in signing the 2018 World Cup winner.

In case, the 28-year-old departs, Aouar – who’s viewed as a good Pogba replacement by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – could take place of his fellow countryman in the middle of the park at Old Trafford next season.

However, at the moment Arsenal still remain in pole position to sign Aouar. The North London giants have also reached an agreement in principle to sign Brighton centre-back Ben White.
