Cristiano Ronaldo has posted a warm farewell message for Juventus fans following agreement with Man United.

The former Real Madrid star expressed his desire to leave Juventus ahead of their Serie A clash against Empoli. Ronaldo seemed to have intended to depart Italy for a while now and was in talks with Manchester City until United entered the fray.

Things gained momentum immediately after City ended their pursuit and now the Red Devils have officially announced that a deal in principle is in place to welcome the veteran back at Old Trafford.

Following the announcement, the Ballon d’Or winner took to Instagram in order to bid farewell to Juve and the club’s supporters. The European champion expressed how grateful and proud he is of having been part of the Bianconeri’s history and success of recent times.

Cristiano wrote in humble words: “Today I depart from an amazing club, the biggest in Italy and surely one of the biggest in all of Europe. I gave my heart and soul for Juventus and I’ll always love the city of Turin until my final days. The “tifosi bianconeri” always respected me and I tried to thank that respect by fighting for them in every game, every season, every competition. In the end, we can all look back and realize that we achieved great things, not all that we wanted, but still, we wrote a pretty beautiful story together.

“‘Juve, storia di un grande amore
Bianco che abbraccia il nero
Coro che si alza davvero
Juve per sempre sara…’

“I will always be one of you. You are now part of my history, as I feel that I’m part of yours. Italy, Juve, Turin, tifosi bianconeri, you’ll always be in my heart.”

Although the Portuguese forward ultimately did not bring the Champions League title to the Allianz Stadium as he had promised, he still achieved great things and secured silverware. No doubt that fans will remember him fondly despite his sudden departure.

Meanwhile, the Mancunians are said to be preparing for their new arrival’s medical in Lisbon. Personal terms are likely to not pose a hindrance to the completion of the transfer.

The 36-year-old is set to return to the red side of Manchester after 12 years. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes another brilliant addition to his squad that will now have the mentorship of one of the greatest players to ever play the sport – something that will be very valuable in a roster as young as United’s current one.
