Player Ratings From Ronaldo’s Debut: Manchester United 4-1 Newcastle

Manchester United managed to maintain their perfect record so far this season with their latest win coming against Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Red Devils managed to end the game with 4 goals scored at the other end whilst conceding just one. Although United looked shaky in the first half, Cristiano Ronaldo’s opener set things in motion and things eventually flowed in their favour.

From debut goals to disappointing performances, let’s take a look at how the players fared against the Magpies.

David de Gea – 7.0

Although the defenders failed to regroup fast enough, the Spaniard could have done better. That being said, De Gea was solid for the rest of the game.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6.0

Wan-Bissaka was decent in defence as always but his lack of efficiency going forward continues to haunt him.

Raphael Varane – 7.5

The former Real Madrid man put in a near-perfect performance this afternoon. If it were not for the slight switch off while his side conceded Javier Manquillo’s equaliser, Varane would have easily been rated significantly higher.

Harry Maguire – 7.0

Commanding and solid as always and was very good with his distribution.

However, Maguire lost one too many duels and is the victim of the same criticism as his partner in defence.

Luke Shaw – 8.0

Continues to impress and added another assist to his tally in the second half as he helped Ronaldo complete his brace.

Nemanja Matic – 6.0

Matic fared well when it came to distribution but failed to hold the midfield on his own. Average to sum it up.

Paul Pogba – 8.0

Although Pogba was quiet in the first half, he made his side’s win sweeter and claimed 2 assists. Easily one of the best midfielders in the world right now.

Mason Greenwood – 6.5

Decent performance from the youngster, but nothing special. Greenwood’s shot rebounded and allowed the ex-Juventus man to score.

Bruno Fernandes – 7.0

Sloppy in possession during the first half but was steady in the second half. The goal Fernandes scored is a definite contender for the Goal of the Month award.

Jadon Sancho – 6.5

Looked better on his full home debut than during his first three outings in United shirt. Sancho didn’t influence the game directly through a goal or an assist but linked up well with his new teammates.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 9.0

Two goals and three points on his debut. Delivered as expected.

Substitutes:

Jesse Lingard – 7.0

Did well to get on the score-sheet after impressive build up play from Van de Beek and Pogba.
