Lionel Messi has created history with his 7th Ballon d’Or win this week and Cristiano Ronaldo has given his thoughts on it.

Earlier this week, the Argentine was once again crowned the best player in the world as he was awarded this year’s Ballon d’Or. Although Messi’s career at Paris Saint-Germain hasn’t taken off quite well so far, his exploits earlier this year – especially in the Copa America campaign – earned him a well-deserved award.

However, as it is with every award ceremony, there are many who do not agree with the award being presented to the ex-Barcelona star. Whilst one side – rightfully – pointed out Robert Lewandowki’s impressive year, the rest were upset with how low Ronaldo finished on the Ballon d’Or list. The Portuguese international finished well below at 6th position.

The striker’s supporters do not agree with the state of the rankings even by a large margin. Specifically, a fan on Instagram insisted in their rant that the Argentina international winning the prestigious award is unfair and the Manchester United man should have won it instead.

The post naturally rustled some feathers; maybe more than they might have hoped it would as the former Real Madrid man himself left a comment on it following its viral development. The veteran left just one word – “factos” implying that he agrees with his supporter.

Should the 36-year-old have won it is debatable, but making such a statement publicly probably was not the wisest decision. It is possible that his social media team left the comment instead as many players do not personally interact with fans online.

Either way, it comes off as a sore loser trope especially since he is someone who does not have anything to prove to the footballing community.
