Player Ratings: How Manchester United Fared In Rangnick’s First Game In Charge
Ralf Rangnick kicked off his career at Manchester United with a well-deserved win over Crystal Palace.
The Red Devils looked like a different team under the German with respect to the way they were set up. Although United struggled to get one over the visitors in the first half, a brilliant goal from Fred during the 77th minute was enough to secure a win for them.
Let’s take a look at how the players did under their new head coach:
David De Gea – 6.0
Average performance; not because he didn’t do well, but because he barely had anything to do all game.
Diogo Dalot – 8.0
The Portuguese put up a brilliant performance against Palace. Took the foot off the gas in the second half but looked better than Aaron Wan-Bissaka based on current form.
Victor Lindelof – 8.0
Solid in defence throughout the game and adventurous with his distribution. A fantastic display from the centre-back.
Harry Maguire – 7.5
The best of what we have seen from the skipper in recent weeks. Dominant and commanding.
Alex Telles – 8.0
Very similar to Dalot’s performance with a very bright first half and a slightly less enthusiastic second. But top performance nevertheless as he was constantly an outlet for crosses into the box.
Scott McTominay – 7.0
A decent performance from McTominay. He was a bit erratic with his passing but seems like a good fit for Rangnick’s gegenpress.
Fred – 8.5
Brilliant display from the Brazilian. Dominated both halves of the field and scored a fantastic goal.
Bruno Fernandes – 7.0
Played a lot deeper than he had so far in his United career but took to it well. Got involved heavily and controlled the midfield.
Marcus Rashford – 6.0
Underwhelming performance based on his standards. Passing was wayward at times and decision making was sub-par.
Jadon Sancho – 5.0
Looked bright and set to continue his good form early on but fell off soon after. Shocking passing at times and looked devoid of confidence.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 6.0
A quiet game from the Portuguese international. Looked less energetic in the second half as well.
Substitutes:
Mason Greenwood – 7.5
A brilliant cameo that won the game for his side. Made the difference by coming on and setting Fred up.
Anthony Elanga – 6.0
Did not influence the match as much as he would have hoped for.
Donny van de Beek – N/A
The Mancunians look rejuvenated under the former RB Leipzig boss but it is left to be seen whether the squad can completely adopt his ideas and philosophy in time.
