Anthony Martial’s Cameo vs West Ham Proved He Can Still Be An Important Player For United
Old Trafford erupted in the 93rd minute of the game against West Ham, as Marcus Rashford netted a winner right in front of the Stretford End.
Every one of Rashford’s teammates wanted a piece of him, recognising the importance of his strike and the resulting three points in the race for the top four. Interestingly, when the full time whistle went, Anthony Martial, was received equally well by Manchester United players.
The Frenchman’s cameo off the bench didn’t go under the radar, and yet again showed why he divides opinion like few others at the club.
Even Martial’s return to the action, first since early December, was met with a mixed response by the Old Trafford crowd. He got booed by some supporters, as he replaced Mason Greenwood in the 82nd minute.
Nevertheless, he remained ice cold, and quickly made an impression with his on ball qualities. The 26-year-old’s movement in and out of possession helped United push West Ham’s backline deeper and keep the ball in the final third longer.
In the final moment of the game, he received the ball in tight space from Cristiano Ronaldo, and calmly played in Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan veteran made no mistake and put it on a plate for Rashford to hammer home past Alphonse Areola.
As the Premier League giants wait for a suitable transfer offer for the former Monaco man, it’s important they consider the qualities he brings on the table before sanctioning his exit.
Martial can prove to be a vital asset in breaking down low blocks, as there aren’t many options up front with his technical ability at United.
