Manchester United will prioritise the signing of a new young striker in the summer, and Victor Osimhen is believed to be their primary target.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s declining form has been a major cause of concern for United, as the Red Devils continue to struggle for goals and drop points on a regular basis despite creating tons of chances.

Ralf Rangnick isn’t sure about the prospect of Ronaldo being Manchester United’s first choice striker next season, and the Premier League giants have been linked with a number of strikers ever since the interim boss admitted United’s “obvious” need of a younger frontman.

Victor Osimhen is the latest name to emerge as a replacement for the Portugal captain.

As per Rai Sport journalist Ciro Venerato (via the Daily Mail), the Napoli talisman is wanted by United to replace Ronaldo in the summer. However, they will have to stump up at least £84m for the Nigeria international.

Osimhen has shown flashes of brilliance in Italy since his transfer from defending Ligue 1 champions Lille in 2020. But the 23-year-old has only bagged seven Serie A goals – two less than Ronaldo’s Premier League tally this season.

As such, United will be better off  exploring other cheaper and more reliable options to lead their line.
