Spurs Defender Humbled By Ronaldo Minutes After He Laughed At Maguire
Life came at Cristian Romero fast during Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-2 defeat at hands of Manchester United on Saturday.
The Spurs defender was spotted laughing in Harry Maguire’s face after the United captain’s own-goal levelled the scores at 2-2 in the 72nd minute.
Maguire tried to win Sergio Reguilon’s cross ahead of Romero in front of David de Gea’s goal, but his outstretched leg diverted the ball beyond the Spanish goalkeeper.
It’s never easy for a player to clear the ball when running and facing towards his own goal. As a fellow centre-back, Romero, instead of sympathising with the unfortunate way the ball went in, chose to taunt Maguire.
Nevertheless, the Argentine was made to quickly regret his action on the opposite end less than 10 minutes later. Probably still too excited with Spurs’s equaliser, Romero failed to mark Ronaldo, who headed home to secure all three points for United.

Romero laughed in Maguire’s face just to be at fault for Ronaldo’s winner. Can’t get more Spurs than that.

Maguire surely owes a thank you to Ronaldo, or else he would’ve received a lot of flak for the Spurs’ equaliser after the full-time whistle.
However, apart from that unlucky moment, the 29-year-old had a pretty good game alongside Raphael Varane. The centre-back pairing kept in-form attacking duo of Son Heung-min and Harry Kane quiet for the large part of the game.
