Ronald Araujo, Barcelona’s stand-out performer in their 4-0 win over Real Madrid, is drawing interest from Manchester United.
Barcelona are keen to extend the contract of their prized asset, but the Catalans are struggling to meet Araujo’s demands.
With the 23-year-old’s current deal due to expire in summer 2023, the La Liga giants could be forced to sell him at the end of the season if a resolution is not found.
According to ABC (via the Mirror), United are interested in luring Araujo to Old Trafford. It is reported that they’ve already approached the centre-back regarding a move this summer.
Barcelona have offered Araujo €4m-a-year – a figure considered too low by the Uruguay international. Meanwhile, it is understood that United are prepared to pay him more than double that amount.
Although Araujo still prefers to continue playing under Xavi, he wants parity with the likes of Pedri and Ansu Fati. And if Barcelona fail to improve their proposal, United might end up benefitting from the situation.
Araujo was also recently praised by Uruguay teammate Facundo Pellistri. The winger is currently on loan at Alaves from United, and has been called up to the senior side after impressing against Paraguay and Venezuela during the last international break.
