Maguire Could Move To Chelsea As They Look To Sign English Players Under New Owners
Harry Maguire has been suggested as a player Chelsea could target, with the club allegedly looking to rebuild their squad with an “English spine”.
Thomas Tuchel’s side are expected to be taken over by the LA Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly in the near future.
Once the takeover is completed, the Blues will have to make quick decisions in the summer transfer window in order to compete with Manchester City and Liverpool.
City have already agreed a deal to sign Erling Haaland, while Liverpool are set to acquire Fabio Carvalho from Fulham, and bolstered their squad by adding Luis Diaz to their frontline in January.
Interestingly, former Sky Sports pundit Richard Keys has claimed in his blog (via the Daily Mail) that he keeps “hearing” Chelsea want to build an “English spine” under new owners.
Further, Keys went on to suggest that Maguire, Harry Kane, and Declan Rice are the England internationals that could be targeted post-takeover.
Both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen will depart Stamford Bridge at the end of the season. As such, Chelsea will definitely look to bring in a new centre-back or two.
However, United, at the moment, have no plans of selling Maguire. The club captain has performed below par this season, but he is far from alone on that aspect, as showcased in the 4-0 hammering at Brighton on Saturday.
Paul Pogba has also been linked with a move to another Premier League club. City tried to sign him on a free transfer, but the Frenchman has rejected their offer, The Athletic have reported.
