Barcelona and Manchester United are yet to find a breakthrough in negotiations regarding the transfer of Frenkie de Jong, but the Premier League outfit remain hopeful of getting a deal over the line for their priority signing, and have already held talks to sign Erik ten Hag’s next target.

The Dutchman sees the midfield as an area of concern, requesting John Murtough to bring in De Jong to bolster his options in the middle of the park.

However, Ten Hag also wants quality competition for Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Anthony Elanga, the Telegraph have reported.

It is understood the Red Devils have opened talks over a potential move for Ajax winger Antony. But before advancing other deals, the club wants to finalise the transfer of the Netherlands international.

With Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui already out of the door, and Sebastien Haller closing in on a return to Germany, Ajax aren’t keen on losing more stars, and might hold out for a big fee to sanction Antony’s exit.

Meanwhile, United are looking to offload Anthony Martial in order to help fund attacking reinforcements. But there aren’t many clubs lining up for the Frenchman’s services due to his high wages and underwhelming loan spell with Sevilla.
