Ajax Trying To Sign Manchester United Defender – Player Keen On Move
Manchester United have knocked Ajax’s doors to strengthen multiple positions this summer following the appointment of Erik ten Hag. But now they could end up losing one of their own talents to the Eredivisie champions.
The Red Devils have already signed Lisandro Martinez from the Dutch outfit, after they couldn’t convince Jurrien Timber to follow Ten Hag’s footsteps. They remain interested in Antony to bolster their frontline as well.
Ajax, however, have not made it easy for their former manager to pick apart the side he built in Amsterdam, and only allowed Martinez to leave after United agreed to pay over €50m for the Argentina centre-back. Former United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, Ajax’s current CEO, was instrumental in finalising the transfer.
The Dutch giants also intend to price out Antony of a move. Further, if a report from the Netherlands is to believed, they are instead working on signing a talent from Old Trafford.
According to the PantelicPodcast (via the Express), United defender Ethan Laird is on Ajax’s radar. The talented right-back spent last season on loan at Swansea City and Bournemouth, and despite flashes of brilliance, he remains behind Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the pecking order.
It is understood that the 20-year-old, who has just a year left to run on his current contract, would be keen to take the reverse path and join Alfred Schreuder’s side.
