Man Utd Agree Transfer Of Former Real Madrid Defender – Also In Talks With Watford For Another Deal
Man Utd this week agreed to transfer former Real Madrid defender Alvaro Fernandez to the Championship on a temporary basis. The Red Devils have also opened talks with Watford to loan out another Carrington talent.
Fernandez, who moved to Manchester from Madrid in 2020, quickly established himself as one of the most exciting prospects in United’s youth setup. He was named the club’s U23s Player of the Year last season, and was seen as the best placed talent to force his way into the senior squad under Erik ten Hag.
However, Fernandez’ preferred position is left-back, where the Dutchman is spoiled for choices. As such, United decided to send the Spaniard on loan.
The Premier League giants have agreed to transfer Fernandez to Preston North End on a season-long loan. Before moving to the Championship for the 2022/23 campaign, he signed a new United contract until 2024 with the option of a further year.
Ten Hag’s side are also looking to send another exciting talent on loan.
As per the Athletic, Watford have held talks with United to discuss a season-long loan for Ethan Laird.
Unlike Fernandez, Laird was involved in the club’s tour to Thailand and Australia. But despite pre-season appearances, regular minutes at Old Trafford are not guaranteed for the Englishman.
