Erik ten Hag is considering some tough transfer decisions to continue the overhaul of his Man Utd squad.

The Red Devils will complete the first half of the season with a trip to Fulham this weekend. The former Ajax boss has overseen both stylistic and personnel changes in his early days at Old Trafford, having improved youngsters Diogo Dalot and Alejandro Garnacho and dropped senior stars like Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo is expected to depart the club next year, and it is understood Maguire could follow him out the door as well.

According to The Guardian, United will listen to offers for their captain next summer. Ten Hag is fine with selling the centre-back to help fund new signings.

Further, and more ruthlessly, the United boss is preparing to release Fred at the end of the season. The Brazilian midfielder’s contract expires in June. United are unlikely to trigger a 12-month extension in his contract.

Both Maguire and Fred are going to the World Cup with their respective countries, and have been a good presence at Carrington and in the United dressing room. However, Ten Hag is determined to bring in consistent top-class performers.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed Maguire from Leicester City for £80m, and Fred was brought in by Jose Mourinho for £52m.
