Man United appear to be on the cusp of securing an emergency replacement for Christian Eriksen.

The injury to the in-form Dane by a reckless tackle by Andy Carroll was arguably the worst thing to emerge from the FA Cup win over Reading earlier this week.

The game also targeted United’s lack of squad depth as Erik ten Hag was forced to use Eriksen even though the fixture was a Cup one. Some have even critiqued the gaffer for taking the risk in the first place.

Now, the club may be in course-correction mode with reports suggesting that late contact has been made with Bayern Munich over the acquisition of Marcel Sabitzer.

Eriksen is ruled out for at least three months which comes as a massive blow to the Red Devils given the fixture-congested list ahead.

Some fans have even speculated that this may mark the end of any title hopes the Old Trafford outfit holds this campaign given that the midfielder was an invaluable source of assists and linked well with the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.

As such, it is important that a quality replacement is found and in Sabitzer, there is hope of that. The Bayern midfielder’s European level experience could prove to be instrumental for United at this point in time.

Interestingly, reports have also indicated that the 28-year-old wishes to leave the outfit. In this respect, the potential of Chelsea being in the running is also a factor although United could end up being the winning party.

It is still unclear whether the deal will be a loan move or an all-out purchase. Regardless, the United faithful are bound to have their fingers crossed.
