What Casemiro Did After Bruno Fernandes Angered Barcelona Players

Barcelona succumbed to pressure at Old Trafford and threw away a goal lead to lose 2-1 against Manchester United.

Xavi’s men looked out of place from minute one and struggled to get out of their own half due to the Red Devils’ intense pressing. However, in their urgency to win back the ball, the hosts ended up giving away a penalty. Bruno Fernandes pulled the arm of Alejandro Balde, who quickly went down and convinced the referee to point to the spot.

Barcelona’s goal slowed down United until the break. But in the second half, Ten Hag’s side once again adopted an aggressive approach, resulting in Fred and Antony’s goal and a melee in between.

The Portuguese ‘guy’, who set up Fred for the equaliser in the 47th minute, appeared frustrated after Frenkie de Jong went down from a challenge by Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Fernandes smashed the ball and it hit De Jong.

This sparked angry reactions from Barcelona players, who ran towards Fernandes. But United players were quick to defend their stand-in skipper.

Some fans amusedly pointed out that Casemiro wasn’t very much interested in getting involved in the scuffle.

The Brazilian veteran’s calmer reaction compared to his teammates was for the best considering he was sent off earlier this month after a similar incident during Crystal Palace’s visit to the Theatre of Dreams.

Apart from the tussle, Casemiro was proactive all night and disrupted several Barcelona attacks. Sergio Roberto came close to doubling his side’s lead after David de Gea gave the ball away, but the former Real Madrid man dispossessed the Spaniard with a last-ditch tackle.
