Man United hold talks to sign World Cup winner – he’s exactly what they need
Manchester United fans are still trying to figure out what went wrong on Sunday at Anfield, as Liverpool humbled the high-flying Red Devils by smashing seven goals past them.
Erik ten Hag’s men could’ve done a lot of things better to avoid the 7-0 scoreline. But one issue that has been a common theme; and needs to be addressed in the summer to avoid drubbings next season is United’s inability to retain possession. Once again against Liverpool, United midfielders kept giving away the ball under pressure.
A midfielder who can simply keep the hold of the ball and get out of trouble in midst of intense pressing will go a long way in ensuring United’s backline aren’t asked to defend relentlessly.
According to CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs, the Old Trafford outfit have held internal discussions regarding a potential summer move for Alexis Mac Allister. The World Cup winner with Argentina is being eyed by Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City as well.
Akin to Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, Mac Allister is very comfortable in possession. The 24-year-old is a crucial part of a Brighton and Hove Albion side that regularly play out from the back.
However, as Arsenal experienced in their pursuit of Moises Caicedo, it’s not going to be easy to convince Brighton to sell their important player. It is reported that interested clubs will be asked to pay around £60m for Mac Allister.
