Manchester United are working to tie down Diogo Dalot to a new deal amid interest from Europe’s biggest clubs.

Early in the season, the Portuguese was considered an undisputed starter under Erik ten Hag. However, after the World Cup break, he has not been at his best. Further, Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s resurgence has meant that a starting place is no longer guaranteed at Old Trafford.

On Thursday, Dalot was hooked off for the Englishman at the break against Real Betis with the score level at 1-1.

Wan-Bissaka looked more lively than his counterpart, as United added three more goals in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16. The same thing happened in the League Cup final after Dalot struggled to defend against Newcastle’s Allan Saint-Maximin.

However, United recognise Dalot’s talent and remain keen to offer him a new long-term contract. According to The Sun, the Red Devils are in advanced talks with the player, who’s attracting interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old’s contract was initially set to run at the end of the season before the Premier League giants exercised their option to extend it by a further year.

And now United want to ensure Dalot remains at the club for several more years. It is claimed that the La Liga duo are ready to ‘pounce’ should an agreement between the two parties fall flat.
