What Fans Are Saying About McTominay And Weghorst After The Midfielder’s Four Goals
Scott McTominay’s form in front of the goal during the international break has invited comparison with Wout Weghorst.
The midfielder by trade came off the bench to score a brace in Scotland’s win over Cyprus last week. With the hosts in complete control in the last quarter of the game, McTominay’s 87th and 93rd minute goals generated little headlines for the United star.
But after bagging another brace to stun Spain at Hampden Park, not only McTominay found himself on the front pages but also sparked an interesting conversation concerning United’s frontman for the remainder of the season.
Weghorst, who has struggled to put the ball into the back of the net ever since moving to United, didn’t enjoy any luck with the Netherlands either.
The 6ft 6in forward has instead impressed the United faithful with his pressing and playmaking abilities. His best football has come in the middle of the park rather than inside the penalty box.
Accordingly, some fans on Twitter suggested Erik ten Hag to swap positions of McTominay and Weghorst.

A fan tweeted: “Weghorst and McTominay should swap roles. Weghorst CM, McTominay CF Probably their true positions.”
Another wrote: “I actually want to see McTominay get given a chance at ST now. Think about it, he can do everything that Weghorst can but at a quicker rate. His finishing ability can’t be any worse either.”
“I would prefer mctominay as a striker than Weghorst,” a third added.
A fourth posted: “At this rate I’d stick Scott Mctominay in strike and Weghorst in midfield.”
Although Ten Hag hasn’t shied away from getting creative with his team selection, the Dutchman is unlikely to put McTominay up top. However, the fact the Scotland international has managed more goals in the last two games than Weghorst has scored at United in all competitions is certainly worrying for the Old Trafford outfit.
