“We’re close” – Star confirms he’s close to agreeing Man United deal
Manchester United endured a disappointing day on the pitch on Sunday, losing 2-0 to Newcastle in what was a one-sided affair at St James’ Park. However, things are looking more promising off the pitch for the club, with the Red Devils close to agreeing a new deal with star defender, Luke Shaw.
“Obviously we’re close but nothing has been signed yet. We’ve agreed certain things, we just have to take it from there,” the England international said in his post-match interview.
Further, on Monday, The Athletic claimed that the 27-year-old has signed a new four-year contract.
Amid the positive development concerning his contract, Shaw didn’t forget to express his frustration with United’s “unacceptable” defeat, admitting Newcastle players showed more desire and motivation than United stars to ensure the win that helped the Magpies move to third place in the Premier League table.
Shaw and his teammates were lackluster and slow in and out of possession. It was the lack of decisiveness from David de Gea and Raphael Varane minutes after the hour mark that opened doors for Newcastle to take the lead through Joe Willock.
Nevertheless, the Englishman has been one of United’s most reliable players this season. Not only has he been brilliant at left-back, but has expertly filled in at the heart of the defence too.
United’s next game is against Brentford on Wednesday at Old Trafford – a perfect occasion, and place for Shaw to celebrate his contract extension by helping his side return to winning ways.
