Man United are not keen on spending all summer chasing Premier League star Harry Kane despite Erik ten Hag’s interest in the player.

The United boss wants a new number nine to lead his frontline next season and is understood to have earmarked the England captain as a priority target.

Kane’s contract runs out next year, and there are no suggestions the 29-year-old wants to extend his stay in north London beyond the summer of 2024. With Spurs set for another rebuild following the sacking of Antonio Conte as well as his assistant and interim successor Cristian Stellini, the club’s talisman may look to seek an exit at the end of the season.

Man United reluctant to waste time for Kane

On paper, allowing their ageing talisman to depart in the summer rather than forcing him to stay and risk losing him for free a year later seems a pretty straightforward option for Spurs hierarchy. But Daniel Levy’s reluctance to lose Kane to a Premier League rival could make things tricky for United or any other interested English club.

Ten Hag is “obsessed” with Kane, but United are reluctant to become “embroiled in a saga” with Spurs, as per the Manchester Evening News. The Old Trafford outfit have no desire to waste all summer by getting involved in Levy’s games. Manchester City tried and failed to sign the striker during the 2021 summer window.

Accordingly, United are also looking at other strikers. Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen is expected to be at the top of United’s list should they decide to abandon their pursuit of the Spurs man.

Kane, who has scored 24 league goals so far this season, will have a great opportunity to increase his tally on Thursday, as United travel to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with an injury-riddled backline.
