Manchester United are preparing to bid for Jordan Pickford, who is high on Erik ten Hag’s list of potential replacements for David de Gea.
A cloud of uncertainty continues to hang over the Spaniard’s future with just less than two weeks left to run on his current deal at United. Ten Hag is happy to keep De Gea at Old Trafford, albeit with no guarantee of regular action between the sticks. Further, the hierarchy wants the world’s highest-paid goalkeeper to take a significant pay cut to extend his stay in Manchester.
De Gea, who kept the most clean sheets in the Premier League last term, has so far shown reluctance to accept new terms, leading to a stalemate. The situation has intensified the Red Devils’ interest in bringing in a new goalkeeper.
Manchester United ready to bid for De Gea’s replacement
Ten Hag wants a shot-stopper who is comfortable in possession and has identified the Everton Number 1 as the best option, as per the Daily Star.
It is claimed United are preparing a £45m bid for Pickford. The 29-year-old has regularly impressed with his brilliant distribution and played a big role in Everton’s relegation escape.
Everton would like to retain their star player’s services for another season but find themselves in a financial mess. The Toffees have to sell well during the summer transfer window to balance the books.
