Manchester United’s negotiations with Chelsea over the signing of Mason Mount remain at a standstill, but they are expected to face little resistance in their pursuit of another summer signing.

Strengthening midfield alongside the frontline remains Erik ten Hag’s priority, but the Dutch coach is also keen on adding a new goalkeeper, with United yet to find a full agreement with David de Gea over a new contract. The 32-year-old accepted United’s initial contract offer on reduced terms before heading off for the summer. But as per the Athletic, the paperwork was never completed at the club’s end, with United proposing new terms that include another reduction in his salary.

As we approach the final days of June, it appears more and more likely that the Spaniard will depart as a free agent and a new goalkeeper will come through the door at Old Trafford. Multiple reports in Italy suggest the same.

Manchester United in talks to sign Onana

United have reportedly held talks with Inter Milan over a potential move for Andre Onana.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via SportWitness), Inter sporting director Piero Ausilo has held a meeting with David Harrison, United’s director of football operations.

The result of the said meeting was an agreement between the two clubs ‘on tight timing to close the deal’ for the 27-year-old.

Ten Hag would prefer to start pre-season in July with Onana as his goalkeeper, and Inter are keen on resolving his situation this week. The former Ajax goalkeeper is also understood to be open to reuniting with the Dutch coach.

The Serie A outfit demand €50m plus bonuses for their star goalkeeper and aren’t willing to give any discount. It is claimed that if United were to agree to Inter’s request on Friday, the deal will ‘close almost immediately’.

Inter’s sporting director plans to meet both United and Onana’s entourage to find an agreement for the player’s transfer to the red side of Manchester. The Italian outlet claims Onana can ‘become a Manchester United player on Friday.’
