Manchester United could sell Antony, Sancho and Martial in January
Manchester United are reportedly planning to “dump” Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Anthony Martial in the January transfer window.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is edging closer to formally getting a deal to acquire a 25 percent stake in United over the line. He’s expected to take charge of the Red Devils’ football operations and could make his arrival known by making some big transfer decisions.
A report in The Sun states that the British billionaire is planning a massive overhaul of the club’s player scouting and acquisition network. The jobs of the likes of CEO Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough are under the microscope after they oversaw several big-name signings come through the door.
The biggest disappointment of all the expensive purchases under Arnold and Murtough has been Antony. The Brazilian, who followed Erik ten Hag from Ajax in a deal worth £85.5 million, hasn’t registered any goal or assist this season.
Sancho is another expensive flop under the current ownership. He’s no longer part of Ten Hag’s squad after falling out with the manager and the two figures have shown no signs of patching things up.
Anthony Martial has been relatively better but his injury struggles have forced him to remain out of the starting XI for the best part of his time under the Dutchman. He’s also behind new striker Rasmus Hojlund in the pecking order.
The outlet reports Ratcliffe plans a firesale at United, with these three forwards in line to be sold in the upcoming transfer window.
It’ll be very tough to get rid of all three players in one window. And should United manage to do that, Ten Hag will need reinforcements in the department which is already light on paper.
