Manchester United ‘closing in’ on their first January signing
Manchester United are making progress in their talks for the signing of Queen’s Park keeper Callan McKenna.
The Red Devils sealed a comfortable 2-0 third-round FA Cup win over Wigan Athletic on Monday night. However, United could’ve ended up with a much more attractive scoreline in their favor if not for their forwards’ lack of composure in front of the goal.
United have struggled going forward all season, having scored just 22 goals in the Premier League. The likes of Luton Town, Everton, and Bournemouth have all outscored them. As such, Erik ten Hag could certainly do with a new goal-scorer in the January transfer window.
However, for now, the Premier League giants are working on adding a new goalkeeper to their ranks.
Manchester United working on signing Queen’s Park talent
According to The Daily Record, United are ‘closing in’ on a deal to sign Callan McKenna from Scottish outfit Queen’s Park.
It’s believed they are in advanced talks to secure a six-figure deal for McKenna, who has made seven first-team appearances for Queen’s Park this term.
The proposed move for the 17-year-old talent, who has also attracted serious interest from Arsenal and Chelsea among others, is ‘loaded with add-ons’ and could see his side end up with more than seven figures if they are triggered moving forward.

Needless to say, should the deal materialise, McKenna won’t be thrown into the first-team setup immediately.
For now, Ten Hag is expected to depend on Andre Onana. The Cameroon international, who started against Wigan, is set to head for the Africa Cup of Nations soon. This should open doors for second-choice goalkeeper Altay Bayındır to accumulate some valuable minutes.
