United offer wonderkid a lucrative contract despite agreeing a deal only last year
Manchester United are set to reward Kobbie Mainoo’s rise to first-team stardom with a fresh new deal.
The Red Devils managed to get the better of Everton on Saturday, as Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford made no mistake from the spot, burying a penalty each to seal a 2-0 win.
However, as far as performance goes – both individual and team – the Old Trafford crowd largely endured an underwhelming match.
Apart from Alejandro Garnacho’s electric showing, which resulted in two penalties for the hosts, and Mainoo’s composed display in the middle of the park, fans and pundits alike found very little to applaud post-game.
This has been the trend all season. In a season full of disappointments, the academy duo have stepped up brilliantly.
Manchester United want Kobbie Mainoo to sign a new deal
Manchester United have certainly recognized the same, and are accordingly working on handing Mainoo a new lucrative contract.
The English midfielder only signed a new deal which runs until 2027 last year. However, as per The Sun, the club’s hierarchy is ready to ‘tear up’ the deal and reward him with a new contract worth £60,000-a-week.
It’s claimed that the negotiations concerning the same opened earlier this month and fresh terms will be sanctioned and signed off at the end of the season. With this new contract, United will reportedly tie him down until June 2030.
The 18-year-old has become a regular under Erik ten Hag. Considering Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro’s form as well as Mason Mount’s injury struggles, it won’t be far-fetched to say Mainoo has been the side’s best midfielder in recent months.
As such, he deserves all the praise, and of course, the rumored bumper deal.
