Anthony Martial, Jonny Evans, and Tom Heaton will not have their contracts extended.

Raphael Varane’s rather emotional farewell to the Old Trafford faithful marked the end of a delightful spell with the Red Devils. However, it also indicated that the shake-up and clear-out had begun at the side with Varane being the first of several more.

Even conservative estimates are suggesting that exits could touch double figures in order to finance a sustainable transfer window with a working wage bill.

In this respect, the key is to remove bench warmers and deadwood from the side and there is a clear indication of the same.

Manchester United to open exit door for three more stars

As per Football Insider, Anthony Martial, Jonny Evans, and Tom Heaton have been asked to leave Manchester United at the end of their contracts later this month.

Martial’s prospective exit comes as no surprise given that he has seen a dip in both form and fitness, with injuries marring what little opportunity has come his way. Still, it will be a pity to see the player who entered a promising starlet leave with his near-decade bringing mixed memories with the side.

Jonny Evans though cannot be described as a bench-warmer, especially off late. When signed last summer it was clearly a more sentimental purchase with the intent of providing some veteran wisdom to the younger players.

However, the 36-year-old was forced to be a more regular face at the heart of the defense due to the injury crisis which plagued the side. His departure makes sense, even if at the loss of much experience.

Lastly, Heaton was never able to make an impact and was perhaps never meant to do so either. He played his role as a backup quite effectively and will be cherished for it.
