Specific details have emerged regarding the fallout between Erik ten Hag and Jadon Sancho.
The whole Jadon Sancho saga at Manchester United, close on the heels of Cristiano Ronaldo being disciplined as well, was a key issue at dictating dressing room dynamics at Old Trafford. The initial exile for Sancho ended in a loan move to Borussia Dortmund.
Back at his old club, Sancho has found his best form again and is expected to be an integral part of the Champions League final squad against Real Madrid this weekend. It is understood that the Bundesliga side will try to resign the forward on a permanent basis this summer.
Now, fresh details have emerged over what exactly went down between the manager and player during the ordeal.
Manchester United superstar Jadon Sancho refused to apologise to Erik ten Hag
Early in the season, Erik ten Hag dropped Jadon Sancho from his matchday squad. Explaining the decision, the Dutch coach suggested he was not happy with the player’s work ethic in training. This led to the much-covered public spat and the player’s eventual exit in January.
Manchester United coach Benni McCarthy, speaking to 947 Joburg revealed that it was all a clash of egos in the end.
Erik ten Hag was adamant that Sancho had to apologise for his behaviour while Sancho felt that doing so would amount to admitting to something he felt he had simply not committed.
McCarthy goes on to add: “Jadon wasn’t going to have that. The manager just said that all he wants is an apology. I spoke to Jadon as a coach, as a mentor, as a friend, and as someone who grew up on the streets and knows the code.”

However, the amicable resolution simply was not to be arrived at.
McCarthy also mentioned: “But Jadon just wasn’t seeing it. He said, ‘I ain’t apologising because if I do, I’m apologising for being lazy, always being late, not giving my best. That’s what I’m apologising for.’ And those were his reasons.”
An unfortunate turn of events, to say the least.
