“Manager was not able to…” – Jose Mourinho reacts to Ten Hag’s treatment of Jadon Sancho
Jose Mourinho has refused to pin blame on any one party in the rift between Erik ten Hag and Jadon Sancho.
Jadon Sancho has turned around his fortunes in a matter of a few months. Late in 2023, he found himself shunned from the first-team fold after going public with his disagreement with Erik ten Hag.
Then, the failure to apologize to the Manchester United manager led to his eventual exit in January. The Englishman returned to Borussia Dortmund on loan.
Just a few months later, he is set to feature in the Champions League final against Real Madrid, having played a key role in his side’s incredible journey in the competition. As expected, this has intensified question marks on Ten Hag’s treatment of the 24-year-old.
There are only a few managers in the history of football as good as Jose Mourinho when it comes to man management. At the same time, the Portuguese tactician has an intriguing record of falling out with many stars. As such, it is always interesting to listen to his opinion on such matters.
Ahead of the Champions League final on Saturday night, Jose Mourinho was asked to share his thoughts on Jadon Sancho’s situation at Manchester United.
He told TNT Sports: “Sometimes they have the talent but they don’t have the mindset you want from a player. For sure, the kid made mistakes, that’s for sure, but also his manager was not able to get the best out of him.”
The former United boss continued: “Normally, it’s multi-factorial. Normally, it’s not the manager, the player, the family, the agent, the club. Normally, it’s multifactorial.”
Mourinho also shed a bit of light on his stint at Old Trafford, suggesting sometimes he couldn’t understand his players. However, he did add that the majority of the time he managed to help them.
The two-time Champions League-winning manager has now accepted to become the manager of Fenerbahçe. It will be interesting to see how he will fare in Turkey.
