Thomas Tuchel has discontinued his discussions with Manchester United, leaving the club in limbo over Erik ten Hag’s future, Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The Mancunian outfit’s internal process, designed to find the ideal manager to lead the team under the new INEOS regime, has continued to drag on.

Ten Hag, having already returned from holiday, still awaits confirmation on whether he will continue as manager for a third season at Old Trafford.

The Dutch tactician, who recently led United to FA Cup glory to secure his second major trophy in two seasons, has only a year left on his current contract.

Thomas Tuchel out of the running for Manchester United job, Romano reveals

INEOS has been meticulous in evaluating all possible candidates for the United managerial role, with Thomas Tuchel reportedly among their top contenders.

However, it appears the ex-Chelsea and Bayern boss isn’t too keen to take on the United job — or any job as of now, for that matter.

Romano reports that Tuchel intends to take a break and not coach any club for the season to come. This very decision has led him to discontinue talks with the Red Devils, despite meeting with United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in France last week.

Whether Tuchel’s exit from the running simplifies or complicates the decision for Manchester United hierarchy is yet to be determined.

In any case, United’s verdict on Ten Hag’s future may arrive as early as this week, if Sky Sportslatest report is to be believed.

But Fabrizio sees the situation as far more unpredictable, indicating that a resolution can be expected in “the next days” or even “the next hours”.
