Manchester United have reportedly identified Joshua Zirkzee as one of their ‘primary’ transfer targets ahead of the summer transfer window.

Despite Rasmus Hojlund’s impressive debut campaign in front of goal, the Red Devils are eager to add to their firepower for next season.

While their preference is to bring in a more established goal-scorer, the hefty price tags associated with such players have posed challenges for the English powerhouse. Last summer’s failed pursuit of Harry Kane, who eventually joined Bayern Munich for a whopping £82 million, exemplifies this issue.

As a result, Manchester United have turned their focus to a rising star to strengthen their squad, in the form of Joshua Zirkzee.

Zirkzee zooms onto Manchester United’s transfer radar

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United have expressed “clear” interest in signing the Bologna forward, and are already doing due diligence on him ahead of the summer window.

Zirkzee has a £34m (€40m) release clause in his current contract, which still has two years left to run.

The Dutchman had an impressive 2023-24 campaign, where he bagged 11 goals and 4 assists in the Serie A. He also completed 52 dribbles through the season, the highest in the league!

His performances have piqued the interest of AC Milan, who are actively pursuing the 23-year-old and recently held talks in London, according to Sky in Italy. While no agreement has been reached, the Italian giants remain in contact with his representatives.

Arsenal are also monitoring the youngster, having shifted their focus away from players like Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Brentford’s Ivan Toney. Juventus were reportedly interested as well, but their pursuit has cooled since they need to offload a striker before signing a new one.

With the transfer window approaching, competition for Zirkzee’s signature is expected to heat up. Who do you think will come out on top in this battle?
