Manchester United have reportedly received a transfer boost, as their key midfield target is said to be keen on securing a transfer to the Theatre of Dreams.
Erik ten Hag is looking to add a central defensive midfielder to his squad—one who could start alongside Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo in the middle of the park. Casemiro, owing to his age and decline, is no longer the clear first-choice for this role.
In the hopes of solving this problem, the Red Devils have lodged their interest in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte, reports from earlier this week revealed.
Apart from Ugarte, the Mancunian outfit has also been linked with the likes of Everton’s Amadou Onana and Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot. But now, it looks like they are set to gain more clarity in their midfield pursuits.
Manchester United’s Ugarte chase heading in a positive direction
Just days after the Ugarte news broke, multiple reports related to this potential transfer have emerged, most of them dropping favourable hints.
To begin with, Foot Mercato reports that United are “leaning more towards” Ugarte as compared to Amadou Onana. In fact, the Belgian international is being targeted by PSG as a potential replacement for the Uruguayan.
ESPN Uruguay journalist Diego Muñoz has echoed this news, confirming that Manchester United are following Ugarte very closely.
Adding to the story, Uruguay Fichajes on Thursday revealed that the new Manchester United hierarchy is expected to bid around €35 million for Ugarte. The 23-year-old is being viewed as a “priority” target by Ten Hag.

Furthermore, the ex-Sporting starlet is also reciprocating similar interest, as he “would love” to play for a club like Manchester United. Old Trafford is being viewed as an “ideal destination” by his representatives as well, Uruguay Fichajes adds.
Ugarte’s play style makes him a misfit for the kind of football PSG boss Luis Enrique wants his team to play. Due to this very fact, PSG are more than willing to listen to offers for the dynamic midfield man.
Given these reports, it appears all Manchester United need to do is make the right bid, and they will have their man.
