Manchester United are reportedly making progress in the deal to sign Leny Yoro, with discussions around his salary now reportedly underway.

The Red Devils are eager to bring in a centre-back this summer, and have already identified a host of defensive targets capable of fulfilling their needs. On top of their wishlist, however, is none other than Lille’s Leny Yoro.

As per David Ornstein of The Athletic, the Mancunian outfit is prioritising a move for Yoro over the seemingly straightforward signing of Bayern Munich’s Matthijs De Ligt. Jarrad Branthwaite, meanwhile, has dropped down the list owing to Everton’s high valuation of the Englishman.

And now, it looks like the 20-time English champions have moved a step closer to the finish line in their Yoro pursuit.

Manchester United kickstart salary discussions with Yoro

With Lille already having accepted a bid worth €50m plus €12m add-ons for their prized asset, Manchester United have been eagerly awaiting Leny Yoro’s decision on the move.

The 18-year-old initially had his mind set on a dream move to Real Madrid. But lack of activity from the Spanish giants, coupled with United’s eagerness on securing his services, have reportedly led the youngster to view a prospective Old Trafford move more favourably.

And now, it looks like the Red Devils have received some form of green light. French journalist Nabil Djellit has revealed that Manchester United have entered discussions with Yoro’s representatives over the salary the youngster will earn at the Theatre of Dreams.

The door to the Mancunian club is now open for Yoro, he added.

If both parties reach an agreement on the contractual terms, this move could rapidly come to fruition, considering Lille have already given their thumbs-up.

Will Leny Yoro follow Joshua Zirkzee in becoming Manchester United’s second signing of the 2024 summer window? The world might very soon find out.
