After having raided Manchester City and Newcastle United of their top officials, Manchester United have brought in an ex-Premier League coach next.

Since becoming the co-owner of Manchester United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made it his mission to restore the Old Trafford club back to the glorious institution it once was.

INEOS’ first statement of intent came when they successfully poached Omar Berrada away from neighbours Manchester City and made him their new CEO. The intent was further reinforced after they brought in—albeit after prolonged negotiations—Dan Ashworth from Newcastle for the sporting director role at the Theatre of Dreams.

A host of other top officials and coaches have since left important positions at several top European clubs to join the new project in Manchester. And now, another one has followed suit.

Top set piece coach joins Manchester United

Manchester United have signed Lillestrom manager Andreas Georgson as their new set-piece coach.

This move comes just eight months after the 42-year-old took up the coaching role at the Norwegian club.

The Swede has previously served as a set-piece coach at Southampton, where he was appointed by the Saints’ director of football Jason Wilcox—Manchester United’s brand new technical director. Georgson also has experience of similar stints at Brentford and Arsenal as well.

Back when Wilcox confirmed Georgson’s appointment at St Mary’s, he had described the coach by stating: “Andreas has an excellent understanding of the game model we’re building here, in which set-pieces play an important role. He is an expert in what he does and truly eats, sleeps and breathes set-pieces.”

Georgson would be a tremendous addition to Erik ten Hag’s already buffed-up backroom staff. Given these additions, we may well see the Manchester United squad go up several levels in terms of their footballing displays next season.
