Turkish outfit Besiktas has expressed interest in signing Manchester United wide-man Antony, according to reports.

The Brazil international has failed to impress since his big-money move from Ajax to Manchester United, which saw the Premier League giants cough up a whopping €95 million in transfer fee.

His performances have often been described as underwhelming and predictable by the fans. And despite the odd important goals every now and then, a majority of the club’s fanbase has deemed the 24-year-old as “not good enough” for Manchester United’s levels.

Amid his difficult spell in England, Turkish giants Besiktas appear to have provided Antony an escape route—one which the player may not necessarily take up.

Antony likely to stay put at Manchester United despite interest

According to a report (via CaughtOffside), Besiktas have made a fresh approach for Antony this summer. However, their pursuit is unlikely to end successfully, as the right-sided winger is intent on staying put at Old Trafford.

Antony wants to stick around a little longer and give his best shot before he decides to move elsewhere. However, getting consistent chances might be a difficult prospect for the player this season, with the emergence of Amad Diallo and the availability of Jadon Sancho for the right winger position.

In any case, this development is unlikely to be a welcome one for the Manchester United fans as well as some officials at the top.

The disappointment will largely emerge not just from Antony’s subpar displays, but also the fact that his sale could have helped fund some important signings for the Mancunians this summer.

The 20-time English Champions will now have to look at other assets in their squad to raise funds. As of now, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Casemiro appear to be the two likeliest candidates to head out the Manchester exit door.
