Manchester United remain in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over signing Manuel Ugarte and there’s optimism that Dan Ashworth and company will manage to take the deal over the line.

The Uruguayan midfielder is considered United’s priority target to strengthen the midfield, having impressed both at Sporting and PSG with his energetic style of play in the middle of the park.

With Luis Enrique looking for different qualities in his ideal midfielder, Ugarte has found himself away from his starting lineup. The 23-year-old was not even included in the Spaniard’s matchday squad for PSG’s Ligue 1 opener.

United admire the player a lot and have already reached an agreement over personal terms with his representatives.

However, so far the Red Devils have been unwilling to meet PSG’s demand, believed to be north of £50 million.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United could “negotiate a deal” akin to Sofyan Amrabat’s move last year, meaning they are prepared to strike an agreement over a loan fee with the option or an obligation to buy the combative midfielder.

Further, the report adds that Dan Ashworth has “expressed confidence in concluding” a deal for Ugarte.

United’s preference, however, remains to buy the Uruguay international permanently this summer itself. However, considering PSG’s demands, it could end up relying on the possible sale of Scott McTominay.

The Scottish star has attracted interest from Antonio Conte-led Napoli in recent days.
