Sir Alex recommends 57-year-old as Ten Hag’s possible replacement at Manchester United

Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly suggested Massimiliano Allegri as Erik ten Hag’s ideal successor at Manchester United.

United have started yet another campaign on a frustrating note under Ten Hag’s leadership. The big cause of concern is that this is his third season at the helm at Old Trafford, and still, the Red Devils appear void of any tactical nous and structure.

Tottenham Hotspur became the latest team to dominate United at their own home and joined Liverpool in scoring more Premier League goals at Old Trafford than Ten Hg’s side this term.

The club’s hierarchy continue to back their manager but it is understood that there is “growing acceptance that the Dutchman is now under severe pressure” heading into the games against FC Porto and Aston Villa.

In the midst of this, a report in Italy has shed light on Ferguson’s supposed recommendation for United’s next possible manager.

Massimiliano Allegri is Sir Alex Ferguson’s pick for possible Erik ten Hag replacement

According to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United decision makers are “scanning the market to evaluate a weighty solution” behind the scenes should they decide to sack Erik ten Hag.

In that regard, Sir Alex Ferguson has allegedly recommended Massimiliano Allegri, 57, as a suitable replacement for the underperforming Dutchman at United.

Allgeri, who most recently managed Juventus, is without a club at the moment. It is added his candidacy is taking shape.

The Italian tactician’s defensive tactics have irked many fans and pundits alike in the past but there is no doubt he is one of the few managers who more or less guarantees trophies.

Having led both AC Milan and Juventus to Serie A titles, he has also attracted comparisons to Carlo Ancelotti due to his experience.

It is added that Thomas Tuchel is Allegri’s “most fearsome competitor” for the United role.

The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager was heavily linked with United before they backed Ten Hag this summer. Akin to Allegri, he is also available as a free agent.
