Manchester United make move for PSG star who has held talks with Amorim
Nuno Mendes is on Manchester United’s radar over a potential transfer.
Ruben Amorim’s new system at Old Trafford is far from perfect. Both squad restrictions and tactical hiccups have seen the new gaffer struggle with results with the back-three. A core feature of this new set-up is a renewed role for the left-backs.
These flankmen are a clear source of danger when on the attack but are also expected to perform smart defensive duties. Currently, United don’t exactly have the perfect players for the task. The likes of Diogo Dalot and Amad Diallo have shown progress but consistency has been hard to nail. Meanwhile, Luke Shaw’s injury woes are doing no one any favours.
In such a scenario, it is not surprising that the higher-ups may have their eyes on who is available in the market.
According to RMC, PSG’s Nuno Mendes has emerged as a person of interest for the Red Devils. The 22-year-old has been promising in the position and is clearly a young investment for the future.
Moreover, Record (via Sport Witness) suggests that United have attempted to sign the Portuguese player. Incidentally, it is also reported Amorim may have made contact with the player himself in a bid to paint a rosy transfer to the Premier League.
Whatever be the case, it is understood that some sort of negotiations are indeed afoot behind the Ligue 1 side.
Any transfer will prove to be tricky even if the player is open to a departure. This is due to the 18 or so months which are still pending on his contract. While United are bound to have plenty of intent, they may not have the financial wherewithal to pull off a convincing offer.
