Premier League club working on signing ex-Manchester United midfielder Fred

Former Manchester United midfielder Fred is on Everton’s radar, as per reports.

Fred left United in 2023 after spending five years at Old Trafford. He joined the club from Shakhtar Donetsk in a deal worth £47 million and went on to make 213 appearances for the Red Devils.

The Brazilian formed a strong midfield partnership with Scott McTominay under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but he lost his starting spot following Erik ten Hag’s appointment.

Where is Fred now?

Accordingly, the 32-year-old midfielder joined Fenerbahce for a fee in the region of £10 million, including add-ons.

Last season, Fred reunited with Jose Mourinho, the manager who signed him for United, in Istanbul. He made 46 appearances under the Portuguese tactician, scoring five goals in the process.

His impressive form in Turkey has sparked interest from a Premier League club.

According to Fotospor (via Sport Witness), Everton are “seriously interested” in signing the Brazil international.

David Moyes is looking for a new midfielder and has seemingly set his sights on Fred. The Toffees already have ex-United midfielder James Garner on their books.

Everton’s pursuit of Fred is so concrete that it is claimed Fenerbahce are already searching for his replacement. One of their targets is Napoli’s Frank Anguissa.

Having said that, it’s not going to be cheap for Everton to bring Fred back to the Premier League, as they would have to offer around €15m to sign him this summer.

The former United star is tied to Fenerbahce until the summer of 2027.
