Manchester United will have to meet “two demands” to convince Zidane to replace Amorim

Manchester United have already been told what it will take to convince Zinedine Zidane to become their next manager.

Ruben Amorim’s position at United has come under scrutiny following a difficult start to the new campaign.

Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag at the helm at Old Trafford in November of last year. The ex-Sporting CP man has managed 29 Premier League games so far but he is yet to win back-to-back league games in England.

Further, United have not tasted a win in their opening two games of the season. They lost to Arsenal at Old Trafford and could only muster a point at Fulham.

At this point, Amorim’s job seems to be safe at United. However, his abysmal record in the Premier League and mis-profiling of stars like Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo have intensified question marks over his management.

Zidane expected to make two demands before considering Manchester United job

The manager market is not exactly overflowing with options. Should United decide to part ways with their head coach, they would certainly be linked with Zinedine Zidane.

The Frenchman, who led Real Madrid to three consecutive Champions League trophies, has long been touted as a potential United manager due to his excellent man management and tactical flexibility.

However, if the Real legend were to take charge of United, he would require two conditions to be met, as per his former France teammate Emmanuel Petit.

Speaking in 2024, Petit said: “I’m not sure that he speaks very good English as well. And communication is very important in the dressing room.

“Honestly, I know a little bit, Zizou [Zidane], and he needs to get guarantees if he wants to sign over there in Manchester United.

“At the moment, the environment at Manchester United for years has not been good. The stability of the bench, the level of the players as well, the expectation of the club is not the same that it used to be.”

Petit continued: “United is still a huge club, but not on the pitch anymore. And Zizou is very conscious and very careful about that, the quality of the players.

“Could he manage to overturn the situation over there? I think the only answer is yes. But at the moment, when you look at the team, I’m not convinced at all about the level of some players.

“If he takes the job at Manchester United, that means he’s got solutions.”

Zidane left Los Blancos in 2021. Since then, he has resisted several opportunities to return to the dugout. As such, Ineos would have to launch a charm offensive designed to persuade the Frenchman to move to the Theatre of Dreams.

As far as spending is concerned, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made a statement of intent by splashing over £200m on transforming the Red Devils’ attack.
