Bruno Fernandes Has Created The Most Chances In PL This Season

Bruno Fernandes was the main man for Man Utd as his penalty fired the home side into victory against West Brom.

The Portuguese had seemingly missed the spot-kick this time around but the referee instructed the set-piece to be taken again as Sam Johnstone was off his line. Surely enough, Fernandes obliged and the Red Devils walked away with a narrow win awarded to them by this solo goal.

This fixture has taken the former Sporting Lisbon captain’s tally to 7 goals and 5 assists across all competitions this season. 12 goal contributions in 12 appearances is incredibly impressive, especially for a midfielder.

However, there is another statistic that is much more impressive – the attacking midfielder now leads the line for the most chances created (26) in the Premier League, ahead of the likes of Kevin De Bryune, Mohamed Salah, Jack Grealish and many more.

The 26-year-old is serving as Man Utd’s best attacking and creative outlet at the same time.

This goes against the contemporary narrative regarding the Portuguese as he is quite often viewed as a player who lacks the technical ability to compete with the likes of other creative midfielders in the league. ‘Penalty merchant’ is a name that is often attributed to the midfielder as an attempt in demeaning his output.

Nevertheless, it looks as if that discourse is not entirely true and as far as creating chances is concerned, Bruno Fernandes is up there with the rest; well – for now – he is quite literally the best.
