Varane Has Agreement In Principle At Manchester United, But There’s One Issue

Raphael Varane has an agreement in principle with Manchester United until 2026, but he’s yet to officially inform Real Madrid of his desire to leave the Spanish capital.

The long-serving centre-back is in no mood of destroying his relationship at Santiago Bernabeu to force his exit. As per Goal journalist Mario Cortegana, the Frenchman has not officially communicated his desire out of respect for Florentino Perez.

Thus, Varane has effectively left his future in the hands of both clubs, and now it’s up to Real and United to find an agreement in order to facilitate his move from Spain to England.

As such, it is safe to assume that at this sage the transfer saga is far from entering advance stages.

Nevertheless, the 28-year-old’s expiring contract remains a sticking point for the La Liga outfit, who are wary of not repeating a Sergio Ramos scenario. As such, it is taken for granted at Madrid that Varane will leave this summer.

Now, the Premier League outfit find themselves in a similar situation they faced while trying to bring Jadon Sancho back to Manchester earlier in the transfer window.

It seems they are happy to play the waiting game and persuade Los Blancos, akin to Borussia Dortmund, to lower their demands. As long as Varane doesn’t makes a U-turn and extends his contract with Real, he will end up, like Sancho, at the Theatre of Dreams.

Although it’s unclear whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will enjoy the pace of the negotiations, as he’d certainly like his new signings to be part of pre-season training and get accustomed to his setup for the season ahead.
