Twitter Reacts As Ronaldo Becomes The Highest Ever Men’s International Goalscorer

Cristiano Ronaldo became the highest ever men’s international goalscorer on Wednesday, netting twice in a 2-1 win for Portugal over the Republic of Ireland.
Before the World Cup qualifiers clash at Estadio Algarve, Ronaldo shared the record with Ali Daei after reaching the 109 mark earlier this year at the Euros and was anticipated to write himself into the history books on his own during this international break.
The Portuguese kept fans on toes right until the end as he missed the early opportunity to make history after seeing his spot kick, won by Bruno Fernandes, saved by young goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu in the 15th minute.
With his country trailing by a goal until the 89th minute, the 36-year-old stepped up, as he often does, to equalise from Goncalo Guedes’ cross followed by a match-winning header in stoppage time.
In the space of seven minutes CR7 grabbed his 110th and 111th goal in 180 games for Portugal.
Not just another record broken, but another record earned.

“I’m very happy, not only because I beat the record but also for the special moments that we had, two goals at the end of the game,” he said on Sky Sports.
The iconic moment merited a special celebration, but Ronaldo was booked for removing his shirt to commemorate his late winner. It was his second yellow card in this qualifying campaign, meaning he will have to sit out of Tuesday’s trip to Azerbaijan.
As such, after featuring against Qatar at the weekend, Ronaldo will be well-rested for his second debut for Manchester United, expected to be against Newcastle United on September 11.
