“Departing In January” – Van de Beek Was Furious vs Villarreal After Being Left On The Bench Again

Donny van de Beek’s frustration overflowed on Wednesday during Manchester United’s clash against Villarreal.

The Red Devils pulled off a brave comeback in the Champions League earlier this week thanks to goals from Alex Telles and Cristiano Ronaldo. The game was won in classic Fergie time style as Sir Alex Ferguson himself watched from the stands.

But there was someone else amongst the crowd who was not having a good time – Van de Beek. After Telles’ scored the equaliser, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer turned to his bench to chase the winner. Jesse Lingard and Fred were chosen by the gaffer at which point the former Ajax man looked visibly upset.

The Dutch international could be seen throwing away the chewing gum that was in his mouth and vocally expressing his frustration. Dean Henderson – who was sat behind the midfielder – could also be seen attempting to calm him down.

This incident wouldn’t come off as a surprise as the playmaker’s desire to get more minutes under the belt is no secret at this point. He is not happy with the game time being allotted to him and his disappointment was very likely to reach a breaking point eventually.

The attacking midfielder had performed well with the scarce minutes he has been given this season and was probably eager to get back on the pitch, which is understandable.

But Solskjaer’s decision was justified as Lingard went on to assist Ronaldo’s winner in injury time.

Any midfielder would struggle to make the team regularly when the competition consists of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes. The 24-year-old needs to either be patient and strengthen his resolve to break into the team or evaluate his options for the future.
