McKenna Replacement: Man United Appoint New Assistant Coach To Rangnick’s Coaching Team

Ewan Sharp arrives at Manchester United to become Ralf Rangnick’s assistant following the departure of Kieran McKenna.

McKenna left Rangnick’s backroom team last week to take up Ipswich Town’s managerial position, signing a three-and-a-half year deal with the League One side.

Rangnick wanted the Northern Irishman to continue at Old Trafford, but the Premier League outfit decided to not stand in his way, allowing the 35-year-old to pursue a fantastic opportunity after assisting both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in past few seasons.

The German has moved sharply to fill the void by making a new addition to his staff in Sharp. The former Toronto FC assistant coach has already worked with Rangnick at Lokomotiv Moscow, and will become the 63-year-old’s assistant and analyst at Carrington.

The duo first met at New York Red Bulls where Sharp worked as a performance analyst. Further, the Scotsman has worked with Chris Armas, who joined United after Michael Carrick’s departure, in New York and Toronto.

After postponement of United’s matches against Brentford and Brighton, first-team training at Carrington resumed on Tuesday.

Rangnick will hope to quickly get his new coaching team settled and familiarised with players before likely return to action against Newcastle United on December 27.
