Manchester United 2-0 Tottenham: Player Ratings From A Deserved Win

Erik ten Hag’s team selection and tactics were both vindicated, as his Manchester United players delivered a complete performance to beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0.

Antonio Conte’s men were totally outplayed in the first 45 minutes and had Hugo Lloris to thank for keeping the scoreline level. But the Frenchman couldn’t do much to keep the clean sheet after the break, with Fred’s deflected shot heading into the bottom left to give United a deserved lead.

The Red Devils maintained their dominance and doubled the advantage through Bruno Fernandes to seal all three points.

Here’s how each United player rated in another big win at Old Trafford:

David de Gea – 7.5

Certainly was not the best goalkeeper of the night, but De Gea did enough to earn a clean sheet. His outstanding save to deny the offside Harry Kane triggered United’s break for the second goal.

Diogo Dalot – 8.0

Solid at both ends of the field and interestingly linked up well with Luke Shaw.

Raphael Varane – 7.5

Didn’t struggle at all against the Premier League’s best striker. Rock.

Lisandro Martinez – 8.0

His partnership with Varane has now seen seven wins and five clean sheets. Relished another passionate night at the Theatre of Dreams.

Luke Shaw – 8.0

Time to call the Englishman ‘Shawberto Carlos’ once again. Bossed his flank and was a continuous threat in the final third.

Casemiro – 7.5

United finally have a proper defensive midfielder and it showed against Spurs. Class.

Fred – 8.5

Was everywhere on the pitch, and was at the right place at the right time to rattle Lloris’ net.

Antony – 7.0

Nightmare for Ivan Perisic on the right wing. His curled effort proved too much for Lloris, who needed the woodwork’s help to prevent the goal.

Bruno Fernandes – 9.0

Man of the Match. Created nine chances tonight – a record in a Premier League match this season. His finishing to double United’s lead was as good as his passing.

Jadon Sancho – 6.5

Another goal involvement for Sancho, but the former Borussia Dortmund man needs to impose himself on the game more.

Marcus Rashford – 7.0

Brilliant movement and created some good chances for his teammate, but needs to work on his finishing to become Ten Hag’s ideal striker.

Substitutes

Scott McTominay – 6.5

Did his job of keeping the clean sheet.

Anthony Elanga – N/A

Christian Eriksen – N/A

The Opposition’s Best Player

Hugo Lloris – 9/10

He made five saves before the half-hour mark and was the only reason it took United 47 minutes to find their first goal.
