Manchester United had Aleksandar Mitrovic on their list of targets before they faced Fulham in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

The Serbian striker has been one of Marco Silva’s key performers, helping Fulham climb the table to ninth and dream of European football with 11 Premier League goals in 21 appearances.

The 28-year-old has proven to be clinical in front of goal, and has also helped the likes of Willian and Andreas Pereira enjoy more space and time in possession by occupying defenders with his immense physicality.

The Brazilian playmaker has racked up a lot of assists from set-piece situations due to Mitrovic’s aerial ability.

Further, with his goal in the FA Cup last week, Mitrovic almost caused an upset at Old Trafford. But a moment of madness not only helped the hosts overturn the result late in the game, but may have also cost him a move to United.

According to the Daily Star, Mitrovic’s form has attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Chelsea and Barcelona. United, who are also looking for a new striker, considered the Fulham striker an option to lead their line. Erik ten Hag admires physically imposing number nines.

However, this was before he displayed an incredible lack of discipline and got himself sent off for shoving referee Chris Kavanagh. Mitrovic faces a longer ban than the usual three games, and as per the report, it remains to be seen how much ‘damage’ the incident has done to United’s interest.
